    2007 Book list
Finished my last book just before New Years Eve, and forgot to include a script bringing it up to a measly 30 this year.
Partly to blame are the numbers of books I started, and didn't finish,
mostly to blame is school, work, and plays.

Slan was chock full of pulpy bizzareness!

    Cooks Crew
the Much Ado About... Muffins! crew is looking for a few good cooks!

As many of you will know, Sara and I are organizing a tea as a
fundraiser/awareness raiser for "Much Ado About Nothing".

We are looking for volunteers to help in preparing food, as we're hoping
to have a lot of hungry mouths to feed.

Some of the dishes will be period, either Shakespearean, or Elizabethan,
but not all. If you have a specialty which you are willing to make, by
    all means do so.

We are hoping to have some idea of who will be cooking before the 20th.
The tea itself will be on the 26th. (Cold storage is available for
things which will keep, and are prepared ahead of time).

I am including a list of some period dishes from some theme cookbooks.

If anyone is interested in baking, please contact me, and let me know
what you would like to bring.

If there is an item in the lists below that strikes your fancy, email
me, and I will type up the recipe for you.

More information on the tea can be found at http://cambrianplayers.ca

Thank you for all your help,

    -Jay

    Stephen King, you BASTARD!
I was sold on the idea. I thought I'd be breaking new ground in non-fiction writing, the "Reality Novel". McClelland and Stewart had a slightly different plan.

I went to the closet to get a cleaner shirt, unfortunately, my filing system had broken down, and all of the shirts near the front were already classified under "yard work only", I reached into the back, slipped on a fresh, gooey cruller, and hit the wall. My elbow went right through, I looked inside, and there, looking rather shocked was Stephen King, sitting crosslegged in a tiny room behind the false wall, laptop propped on his knees.

King was surrounded by screens, showing every room in my apartment. Most of them were focused on my desk. It was then that I realized the truth.

I am the subject of a meta-reality novel.

Do you know what it feels like to be lied to like this? By chaper seven, you will!

    Flights of fancy
The radiation levels have dropped, people have started moving back in to the areas which were once cities. Here and there, the odd wall still pokes a few feet out of the ground through the grass. An old man walks through, kicking at roots. He is pulling a reluctant child behind him.

"No, no, you're not understanding me! See these walls? They used to be taller than the trees, they used to make giant houses which went up as far as you could see!"

    The child grunts, unimpressed.

"These were "buildings". They are part of your heritage, and I want you to know about them! They were huge!"

"Yes, grandpa, I know! You've told me all this before."

"And... these huge buildings, as high as you could see... I could leap them in a single bound!"

The child pulls a phone out of his pocket, dials silently and speaks into it. "Dad, it's Grandpa again." After a brief conversation the child hangs up, looks at his Grandfather, and says "Dad says I have to go home now because you're weird!".

As the child flies away, a tear forms in the old man's eye.

TTC Walkout/Lockout/Whatever it turns out to be...

I found out when I crossed the street to Mitzie's to get my monday morning cuppajoe, running about 5 minutes late.
I returned home, updated [info]sugarpacket and hopped on my bike.
Suprisingly little traffic, considering that 700,000 people must find alternative transport today.
A lot of bikes, a lot of pedestrians.

My streetcar commute is usually 25-35 minutes.
    Cycling commute 15 minutes.

Went for our first hike on the Bruce Trail today, about 5 hours of steady hiking, including a minor deviation from course. After months since my last it has left me tired and sore. It was pretty good for the most part, but we've really got to pick up a trail map, so we can avoid the sections which lead us along the shoulder of a highway for 600m, or down back roads.

Some of the trail is quite nice, but the section we were on was not very "wild" as Sara put it, which hit it on the head, a bit of bush, then a field, then a road, then some more bushes and cornfields.

It really refreshed me to get out in the woods for a bit though, it's nice to smell forest smells, and hear twig-snapping rather than pavement-pounding on occasion.

This is a rewrite of my previous effort
This one is designed to be run on Linux.

It will collect the drive usage of a series of Windows servers, and send them in a nicely formatted email, highlighting anything with less than 20% free space.

This version will accept more than one drive per server, where the old one only checked c$.

As usual, comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
